Noodles are up and at the ready!

Doc Chey’s is a great alternative to the typical Asian food. I went there this week before my PRSSA meeting, and it was wonderful!

  • Location: downtown Athens on the corner of Clayton and Jackson Streets
  • Phone number: 706-546-0015
  • Web site: http://www.doccheys.com. I also have the menu on the Internet.
  • Reservations: not needed
  • Price: around $8-9 per plate- not bad!
  • Best meal: I think their lunch and dinner menus are the same, so it’s up to you.
  • Open and close: not sure- I’m assuming 11 a.m.-10 p.m. or something like that
  • Group friendly: totally. They have big tables where you can fit a lot of people.

Our group before PRSSA arrived promptly at 5 p.m., and we were immediately seated. The inside of the restaurant is unique- airy, light, Asian-fusion-y, and there’s a big screen TV and projector on the wall.

Our waiter was really nice, and he knew what all the confusing stuff was on the menu. It was cold, so a couple of us ordered soup. I had the Thai Coconut Chicken Soup, and my friend Ginny had the Chinese Chicken Soup. Mine was very tasty, but it was way too much. The soup bowl was bigger than my head! My soup had pulled chicken, red peppers and skinny noodles in (what I thought was) a broth with some coconut milk. The chicken was tender, and the soup hit the spot.

Ginny’s soup looked tasty, too. It had the crunchy noodles, and she ate most of it. …warmed us heart and soul!

On top of our soup, others ordered the mongolian beef, lettuce wraps, veggie spring rolls, Japanese spinach salad and general chey’s. We got an assortment of food. Doc Chey’s is one of those places where you have to get something different every time.

Good food. Good service. Clean. Good report.

  1. Yeah, I’ve heard this is a great place to eat. Do they have tea? (like the oriental stuff…)

  2. I LOVE Doc Chey’s, it is affordable and delicious! If you get the chance, try the dumplings, they’re awesome! They DO have a large assortment of teas to choose from.

  3. I haven’t been to the DC in Athens, but I have been to the one in Asheville, and it is fantastic! I have seen some negative posts on Chowhound about the Athens location, but it sounds like thats bad information.

  4. Hey! I’m so happy I’m on your blog! in the pic!
